Ron Behrenwald on the way out?

Ron Behrenwald is in the top 3 for a Principal position somewhere other than Marshall. Sources say he is pretty much "the top choice". Like other bloggers have said, this is truly a sad day for Marshall. But a great time for Ron. If he gets this position he will be going to a place where its Superintendent will let him do his job. His new boss will not be telling him how to run his building, like his current boss does. Shame on the current Marshall School Board for letting this happen! They could've stopped this downward spiral a long time ago. Unfortunately we will keep on spiraling downward and it will all be on the Board's shoulders when we hit rock bottom - or have we already hit?

Congratulations Ron! You deserve much much better. Shame on Phillips and the school board.

Is Phillips forcing Mr. Behrenwald out so she can move Dave Turner to take over the high school? Then she can have Paul Holbrook take over the Middle School (remember he was NOT the first choice of the selection committee, but Phillips hired him against their objections). That would give Phillips loyalists running MMS, MHS and Gordon. Are her next targets Hughes, Walters and the Marshall Alternative High School? Is she still trying to force Mr. Hulkow out? Which board members hate Behrenwald, Hulkow, Townsend, Hanson and other excellent people so much that they support Phillips in her evil plots?

Anonymous said...

As to the question of Which board members don't like Behrenwald? - - Well I can shed a little light on that. I've had conversations with Vic, John, Dan, and Janice who all brought up the June board meeting where he spoke out about the unfair hiring of the Asst. Principal at the H.S. Its kind of funny how all four had the same comment about Ron. "He shouldn't have spoken out publicly about this issue" - "There are better ways to solve these issues" Well folks - maybe he thought this was his last option! When things can't get done behind closed doors - sometimes you just have to open the door and let it out.

I can hear it now from JKP:

"He wanted to get a job close to his family, so we are happy for him."

If Ron didn't have to put up with Joyce and all of her antics - I think Ron would've been her for a long time. Congrats again Ron! Shame on you Board!

Ron spoke out in a very civil manner about a very bizzarre way that Joyce was handling the hiring of an assistant Principal at MHS. He simply said that the process should be the same at all of the building. Joyce said it was the same. Bob Lyng called her on her dishonest explanation. She denied it and Bob went through the specifics of the differences, proving Joyce was not being honest. It was obvious that Joyce and her supporters were up to something dishonest and sleazy (what a shocker!). Joyce wanted to hire someone personally loyal to her and willing to serve "Joyce first" and not "the kids of MHS" first.

Yes, Joyce and her supporters have axes to grind! We know some of their personal motives. Also they are upset about the truth being exposed through this web site and other ways all over Marshall. Mr. Behrenwald is too smart, too caring, too professional and overall way too good for their liking! If the board is honest and truly cares, it will be Joyce they will be questioning and forcing out over these incidents of dishonesty and overall bad management.

Congratulations Ron! You WILL be missed.

Almost everything that has been said or predicted on this web site has turned out, unfortunately, to be true! When I first started reading this web site I thought the situation was exaggerated. Now I realize that things are much worse than I thought in the Marshall schools. We will certainly miss Ron Behrenwald and his family, a great Principal and a class act all the way! This is a great loss to the Marshall schools. And the sad part is that Dr. Phillips is celebrating his demise and departure. How many more victims will there be?

Any news from the school board meeting on Monday March 12? Was it the usual scripted, "rubber stamp," no debate, no questions, no discussion show?

Anonymous said...

I can tell you before Ron spoke at the June 06 board meeting he met with two board members. These two were aware and said if he could not get jp to address it he should speak up. If the issue is with the supt. you are supposed to go to the board president....Ron did that. Because he would not sit quietly and let joyce steam roll yet another situation he was given a negative evaluation and I believe reprimanded for speaking out publically in disagreement with her two different hiring processes....middle school principal and high school assistant principal. I believe he was told to never speak to a board member without her knowledge of it beforehand. Policy is set in place on how to address situations. Chain of command, etc. Ron went to I believe, Beardsley and Lyng before speaking up publically. He was given this negative performance evaluation, by joyce, that same day as retaliation for his speaking. One more fictional negative evaluation this spring and joyce could have ruined his career or at least made it very difficult for him to find employment. WHY HAVE WE ALLOWED THE BOARD TO BECOME RUBBER STAMP ELECTED SEATS?
It is blatant evidence that Equal Opportunity Employment practices were not used by the supt.

Prior to Ron arriving at the high school we had Ray Davis. Very nice man but literally had his secretary running the building, acting as an administrator type in directing the staff. Ron saw many things that needed changed in his first 1-2 years at MHS. After consulting with various staff members he re-formatted the office staff and set about getting some sembalance of order and structure. At this time the operation at the high school is running like a finely tuned engine. Ron took a disfunctional building and thoroughly put them back on track. The staff has high respect for Ron for this accomplishment. The visible problem is that Ron will not allow joyce to make decisions that he must answer to. When you allow someone like joyce to micro manage your building you must know that being set up is VERY LIKELY. (she will disappear when her decision goes wrong) (the good doctor has an already proven track record on that fact).

In the past couple years as well as time to come many, many families should thank the effort of Ron Behrenwald for putting some structure to the high school operation. He has always had time to listen, consider action before he reacts to situations. He is VERY WELL RESPECTED for his trustworthiness, knowledge and incredible patience. Congratulations Ron. It will be wonderful working for a board that actually cares for their administrators backs them up. (this is how the check and balance between supt. and administration/staff is supposed to work) (Board members are not supposed to have personal agenda but put aside their personal feelings for the best interest of the school system) You will be sorely missed Ron. Mike Dahlinger can and will tell you what a great difference there is in working for a superintendent that has to answer to a board as opposed to ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS THAT DO NOT KEEP THEIR SUPERINTENENT IN CHECK. Can't wait for her evaluation on March 27th. Do you suppose she will get a huge raise for this irrepairable damage she has now caused Marshall schools. HOW IS HER LATEST ACTION PUTTING KIDS FIRST???? Good things do happen to good people. The Behrenwalds are evidence of that. In the process of looking for a different principalship he just may have been able to find a place that treats human beings like they are supposed to be treated.

A nasty and incompetent Superintedent + a school board that fails to hold her accountable (or worse, openly supports her actions!) + community apathy = disaster for the Marshall Schools!

The BC Enquirer has Phillips and the board trumping up new grad requirements. Well that is all state mandated, no big deal, Marshall had to do it. The Marshall Schools are in serious decline at the top. Great staff and parents work hard despite the many problems caused from above. The bond will likely sink due to anger and mistrust of Phillips and the board. Unless the board fires Phillips this spring, there is no hope in the near future for the Marshall schools.

Losing Ron is a big loss and the Supt. and the school board deserve the blame! No surprises there! Please stop the malicious personal vendettas and hidden agendas of some board members.

Dear Board Members:
I am writing this letter as a protest to the lack of leadership in the Marshall Public School District.
Joyce Phillips lacks the will or skill (or both) to sustain effective action within the district and, with regard to virtually all important leadership challenges that have come up, she has created a void where creative and positive ideas once flourished. Phillips lacks personal integrity and is aided and abetted by followers (and some board members) who are unwilling or unable to effectively intervene. She has systematically micromanaged, intimidated, and ultimately driven off great administrators, like Ron Behrenwald, and made other long standing and valued employees feel like second hand citizens. Phillips has changed protocol and past practice numerous times in order to facilitate her personal whims and when this has been questioned she has given those people unsatisfactory job evaluations for merely bringing it to the attention of board members, staff or parents.
I am appalled that anybody could mistake Phillip's actions or policies for leadership. Staff morale is in a death-spiral and Phillips keeps on punishing the common rank-n-file simply to cover up the lack of leadership in upper management. I know countless professionals that have been with MPS for 10, 15 or 25 years saying they wish they worked somewhere else because working for MPS is utterly miserable now. These are not the "bottom of the barrel" employees who do not want to do their jobs. These are the key professionals that are retained specifically because they are the 'cream of the crop' and have always been deemed essential if not irreplaceable to the district. These are the teachers and staff, whose opinions were swept under the rug after being revealed in a survey that was disastrous to Phillips. These same teachers, administrators and staff are now being told (in actions if not so much in words) that they're lucky to have jobs. Phillips has continually not kept her word...that affects performance and vision. When employees receive promises or verbal contracts from Phillips and then these contracts are broken, morale suffers and so does the outcomes from the employees. No lip service is going to improve motivation when the employees know that nothing is going to change while Phillips and her minions are still in charge.
There are certain things that define a bad leader...bad leaders fail to keep their word; bad leaders insult and undermine those they supervise behind their backs; bad leaders blame their mistakes on others; bad leaders use the silent treatment to show their displeasure. Joyce Phillips has taught me about bad leadership: she is the boss who ignores the civilities of a 'hello' when riding in the elevator or passing in the hall; she fails to say 'thank you,' 'good job,' or other little things that mean so much.
The impact of her actions lingers like an insidious energy-sapping virus, swallowing motivation and stamping out pride. She is one of those individuals who truly fails to understand that sometimes it is far better to be kind than right. Joyce Phillips and her immediate subordinates are incompetent and should be fired.
Is Joyce Phillips:
" Worthy of trust, honest, a person of integrity?
" Caring, compassionate, respectful?
" Willing to lead by example?
" Inspiring, uplifting, enthusiastic, positive?
" Competent, capable, effective?
" Forward looking, with a sense of direction, a concern for the future?
" A good listener and communicator?
" Humble?
" Accessible to the people?
" Patient and kind?
" A decisive problem solver?
Or is she:
" Rude or aggressive?
" Leading by fear and intimidation?
" Operating with double standards?
" Putting herself first over her employees?
" Uncaring?
" Demeaning; disciplining employees in front of others?
" Micro-managing?
" Being untrustworthy?
" Violating the Golden Rule?
Our actions send signals about who we are and what we expect of others. As board members you hold the public trust. For the ultimate test as to whether you are making a difference, try asking yourself this question as asked by Richard Ayers: If attitudes and actions were contagious, would you want to catch yours?

Anger and outrage are spreading fast through Marshall!!! Could forcing Ron Behrenwald out at MHS be the last straw? Other recent events have made many think about the consequences of JPs mismanagement and harm she has caused her many victims. Peoples lives are at stake here! Pursuing known false and innacurate accusations to ruin people is a crime! We need a criminal investigation of the Superintendent and maybe a board member or two. The school board will be held responsible for their actions.

Anonymous said...

I sent a letter to the board members about Phillips lack of leadership...I hope they are listening. At least they can't say they have never had an e-mail about the subject.

Anonymous said...

I hope the excellent post up above at 10:30 really has been sebt to each board member. Enough is enough and losing Behrenwald is the last straw for many of us longtime MHS staff and supporters. We are exactly the people that are needed on board if there is any chance the bond will pass and I have heard many more No comments from longtime supporters than i would have expected. If this board is so blind to the reality of discontent in regard to the top leadership then I guess they will be quite shocked at what happens during the upcoming vote on the bond. People are Not happy nor do they trust the current leaders.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations Ron! You deserve to work for a boss and board that truly supports you. To the people of Marshall: Send a statement to this board. VOTE NO on the upcoming bond. Can you trust the top brass with your tax dollars? I for one can't. Why is there a "committee" being formed (being formed by JKP) to help a simple renewal of a bond? In years past, it was pretty much a given that a renewal would pass. Obviously JKP feels a little threatened that this might not pass.

Anonymous said...

I am so mad, I am voting NO on the bond to send a message! We need to fire Phillips and the board needs to change or be changed. Everyone I know is planning to vote against the bond too, unless Phillips is fired very soon!

Anonymous said...

The school board should be begging Behrenwald to stay, maybe with a much-deserved promotion to Superintendent. As far as the "mad doctor" goes, the sooner she is back in hoosierland the better!

Anonymous said...

If you look at a couple of our board members perhaps you will find the answer as to why they support the not-so-good-doctor and her lack of ethics. Go to the district office - ask for MPS Board Policy #625. Attached as part of that policy is: "A CODE OF ETHICAL RELATIONSHIPS FOR BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS AND EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATORS" This document by the Michigan Association of School Boards is part of the board members orientation. Highlight each item that has not been adherred to. Obviously the high road that has been taken by MPS staff in revealing the problems at this school district has not brought the results that are needed to save our school system from ruin. It is time to get our paperwork in order. List each and every item of concern. Remove each board member that is not adherring to this code of conduct. THIS CODE GOVERNS OVER JOYCE PHILLIPS ALSO. Better be quick with your request for this document - when the good doctor reads this post we are sure she will revise MPS policy #625. And of course the board just giggles and says sure joyce whatever you need, want or say. You see, this is not the appropriate conduct for board members. Joyce is having her evaluation March 27th....unless of course she finds a need to quietly change that date to her advantage....or better yet...when no one knows the date. Contact board members but don't trust all of them to confidentiality. I would name names but I am sure you can figure it out. Oooops...that is part of their conduct rules also...The purpose of the code is-I will quote "The intent of this document is to provide guidelines for ethical relationships which are essential to the successful operation of the educational system." This Code of Ethics presumes a relationship between boards of education, administrators and community which promotes TRUST, OPEN AND HONEST COMMUNICATON, CREDIBILITY AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE." Now - review the past 10 months of activity by our board of education. Share your notes with others because part of the problem is the same tactic as the good doctor uses: INTIMIDATION! We have our notes and we will share them.

Until there are more "letters to the editor," people speaking out publicly at school board meeting, and maybe a recalof the JP supportersl, there will be no action from the school board. Allmost everyone I know wants "the mad doctor" fired, but have given up talking to board members. The "high road" that so many of us have tried has failed. Vic, JP and the gang just laugh at us! Expect an excellent performace review and pay raise for JP this month. They are celebrating the demise of Ron Behrenwald and many others. They could care less about the kids, staff or the community at large. Hope is lost with this group!

How to Deal With Jerks in the Workplace
http://www.foxnews.com/index.html
How do you define the term?

There is a two-step definition that comes from the literature on abusive supervision. The first standard is whether someone consistently leaves people feeling demeaned and belittled and deenergized. The second standard is whether that person targets people who have less power than they do. But there's also an emotional component — the feeling that you're being oppressed or pushed around by a bad apple.
That's the Phillips camp in a nutshell!

Anonymous said...

Phillips gets away with so many bad things because the board members encourage her or fail to stop her. Either way they are responsible for her actions. Documents any discussions or other communications you have with them. The evidence is piling up about the wrongdoing of several school board members. They are as much to blame as JP. Several are known to be using JP to carry oout their personal hidden agendas. Their motives may include revenge, arrogance and jealousy. There is no other logical explanation. In any other school district JP would have been long gone by now!

Anonymous said...

Even though there are many negative comments on this blog, the fact that no one had the courage to step up and run for the board sent a very strong message to the current board--"it is only a few disgruntled employees who don't think Dr. Philips is doing her job." The bond election will be very significant. Hopefully peopel will use their votes to send a strong message to the board.

Anonymous said...

Phillips and her board supporters are using the bond as a hostage. If people vote for the bond, they will interpret it as a vote of confidence in them. The bond vote is being viewed as a litmus test. If the bond fails, then Phillips and the school board will look very bad. They set up a relatively small bond because they have such low expectations for community support. It was designed more for propaganda and political reasons to pass. Does this sound shady? What's new! A vote against the bond is a vote against Phillips and the board, not against the kids. Change must first happen at the top.

Anonymous said...

How in the world can it NOT be a vote against the kids??? Our high school facilities are in great need of improvements - - - especially as we compete with new high schools in B.C. There has to be a better way than to NOT support a much needed bond proposal. That is simply not good business despite who is our current leader. Don't take it out on our kids by not supporting the bond.

Anonymous said...

Even if it does pass, with this shady group, who's to say what it really will be spent on. The fox is watching the henhouse and money disappears around that place. I have kids in the high school, but I'm not going to vote for it. Too many unethical dealings going on for me to buy in.

Anonymous said...

I think that keeping JKP in power is much more punishing to our students than fixing the bathrooms. It will be a "no" vote from this house.

Anonymous said...

How can you trust this group with your tax dollars? If the bond does not pass, and if that results in some desperately needed changes, then there can be another bond vote in a few months. In the long run, a delay of a few months in updating the high school bathrooms seems like a small sacrifice.

See you on the 27th

To 3 posts above. Perhaps your intrepretation of not supporting a bond is in your terms 'bad business'. It is the opinion of MANY that joyce phillips stands for BAD BUSINESS. Maybe this community and this board should have done something last fall about the problems with this superintendent before people had to appear to be supporting 'no bond for joyce'....and bad business. Let's clear up the horrible leadership problems and then watch this community, staff and students support anything a GOOD LEADERSHIP may ask for. Heck - we may pass the really big needs package if the current top leadership was put into check - like they should have been when all the corrupt mistakes/coverups were revealed this past October. Instead - we chose to make a community of voters look to be choosing between supporting bad leadership and a yes vote on bond issue....or looking to like no bond support would be interpretted as not supporting our kids. This is a trust issue...vote yes if you honestly trust this superintendent and her visionary agenda. Let's remove our overpaid Indiana visitor and watch as this community comes together to meet the needs of our students.

The reputation of the Marshall School Board is very bad right now. They will have one last chance to regain the community support and respect later this month. If they give Joyce Phillips the bad perfromance review that she deserves, and in the process does not renew her contract, then there is hope. If Joyce is fired or demoted, we can start the healing process and unite everyone to work for real improvements across the board.

We have suffered from very bad leadership for several years. A lot of damage has been done, and is still going on. If they choose to back Phillips against the interests of the kids and the schools, then it will be a more of the same problems or worse for another few years. We need change now! There is no way I can support the bond until Phillips is replaced.

Anonymous said...

I have heard amonst school employees widespread that if the board holds phillips accountable they will organize a promotion for the approval of a bond. It does take the support of your employee base to insure passage of tax bonds. Everyone should be contacting the board members you feel you have some trust in and encourage 'accountability' in respect to the March 27th evaluation. Why else is the good doctor so busy creating her alibi that she is not the reason Ron is leaving. We all know she is the root the the problem. Pull the problem out by the root and there will no longer be weeds!

Anonymous said...

Joyce had threatened Ron that he would get his final and bad evaluation this March, no matter how well he performs. It is widely known that Joyce hated Ron and most or all administrators she did not personally hire. Also her hiring has been controversial because have committees are set up and they recommend a candidate Joyce always hires someone who is not the best qualified for the job. Why does she do this? Because she is a bad leader who is more concerned about personal loyalty than competent leadership, which is a threat to her. Only an idiot would think that Joyce is doing a good job after all that has happened this past year or two!

Anonymous said...

The new Chronicle out today March 17 has Mrs. Phillips all over it. Another PR article, she announces (not MHS Principal Ron Behrenwald)the top ten MHS students to steal credit away from Ron, and she is in charge of the "grass roots" citizens campain to promote the school bond. Of course she showed up as an "off the clock" concerned citizen as she said. She also selected Mr. Holcomb as the grass roots citizen group leader. Now Mr. Holcomb may be a fine gentleman but he is already tainted with being Phillips' hand-picked citizen leader under her. IN other words he is being used. Also Vic is quoted as saying she is doing a good job and he expects a good evaluation. They will vote her in a raise and contract extension at the same time as her evaluation/ Also the Chronicel confirmed that last year Phillips was given a 9 percent raise for EACH of the next two years, including this year. That is a whopping 18 percent raise for two years! Sam abd Bob opposed it but were over ridden! Can it get much worse?

I Talked To Mr Potter To Ask Him About Raise Statment. He Said It Is Not True. Nine Percent Was Over 3 Years Averaging 3% A Year. He Said Using The Same Survey That Is Used For Teachers, Teachers Are At Top. Joyce Is Below Mid Range. In Talking To Mr Potter He Seems To Think Teaching Group In Marshall Is Great.I Think If More People Would Contact Him We Would All Understand His Views And Opinions And Not Assume We Know. I Am Glad I Took The Time To Do So.

After forcing Ron Behrenwald out and doing her best to ruin the lives and careers of many other excellent teachers and staff (and their families), Joyce Phillips is trying to cover up her evil ways and put a phony "happy face" on the whole ugly mess!

No surprise she is trying to rub out the many fond memories of Ron and steal the his glory for herself, that is the core of her "leadership." The huge raises, the undeserved good performance reviews, the unjust persecution of good staff all add up to a corrupt sleazy mess! Vic is already bragging that Joyce will get another good performance review no matter how bad she is. A massive 18 percent raise in two years for bad performance, is nothing short of outright corruption!

Now a school bond is dangled to the community under the lie of a "no tax increase" bond. How can we raise $8.7 million dollars without paying more taxes?). At least Joyce could be honest for once! If we vote for the small bond, Joyce and her sleazy followers will take credit. Joyce even had the nerve to start her own "grass roots' campaign for the bond. How dishonest is that (yes, I read the paper too!). How can this be considered to be "grass toots" and nonstaff lead? Their plan is obvious, passing the bond has been set up to be a big phony victory for Joyce, Vic and their few supporters. They also hope this deflects attention away from all of the other real issues, problems and bad things going on.

But we are not fools! Most people I know, and myself, would normally be strong supporters of the school bond. But this one has to be defeated! We need big changes at the top first! Every other civil and "high road" method has been tried by myself and many MPS staffers and community members for positive change working with the school board. They know very well what all of the problems, concerns and issues are. So far they have decided to do very little or nothing to resolve these issues. The threat of a lawsuit and other forms of retribution has forced many of us to be anonymous. Now we have NO other options but to vote against the school bond and maybe start a recall. The school board has let us down too many times. After today I have no respect or hope left that Vic Potter, Janice Darling. Paul Beardslee, Dan Stulberg, Chris Varvatos, Ali Webb and even our beloved John Coulter will lead us out of this mess! Their last chance will be March 27th! We will see what they choose to do. The "kids" or Joyce, they will have to choose who to support?

Anonymous said...

To anonymous 2 posts up:

I would like to believe that Vic and the other board members are working hard in the interests of what is best for the Marshall schools. I have talked to him and other board members too. So far I have seen absolutely nothing positive happen at the board level! Joyce Phillips is as arrogant and as bad as ever! Ron Behrenwald has been forced out of MHS, the teacher surveys were basically ignored, staff and community members have been threatened with legal action for criticising Joyce, no public discussion of the numerous major district problems or any real debates have been held at school board meetings, scandals at the top are covered up while many staff suffer from trumped-up or false allegations.

We will see soon if Vic is sincere in his comments to you, me and others. If he does truly care and is a great guy, we will see him be the leader we need on March 27th! If he leads the charge to give Joyce Phillips the just and bad performance review she deserves as a step towards removing her, he will be a hero! If he supports her with a good performance review/raise/contract extension then all the harsh criticism will be much deserved!

Anonymous said...

I am also very concerned about the state of affairs in the Marshall Schools. I keep hearing that the bond is in trouble because so many people are mad at the Superintendent. I want to support the bond but I agree the board needs to get its act together first. Why do they keep supporting such an unpopular Superintendent?

Anonymous said...

It is awful what has been done to Mr. Behrenwald and his family by Dr. Phillips with school board support!

Anonymous said...

This is a big shame that the school board has not ran her out of this district. This has gone to far and from a student perspective i think that she needs to go! Mr.b needs to stay i know that it is a bit late for that know but that is just a buch of bull that the school board would let her run him out of here like that!

Anonymous said...

Is it too late? If the school board steps up to the plate, can they convince him to stay? I know that he and his family have many friends and strong support in Marshall. I want him to stay too!

Anonymous said...

Well quite obviously if you talked to Vic and he sounded proactive - you are not a school employee. He uses arogance and disbelief as his favorite reactions in dealing with employees. Sounds like he can talk out of both sides of his mouth at one time. MPS employees always hear things like: 'no one told me there were problems, I didn't know jp was attacking anyone, I'll look into it, and I never once thought jp was wanting to get rid of you, etc,'. How come since Oct 2006 when the surveys were turned over not one time have I heard of one board member roaming through buildings asking appropriate questions? When you do talk to certain board members (yes he knows who he is) they run directly to the good doctor so she can redirect her targeting of employee. This board president and superintendent do not play well with others. At the least I hope our board sees the need to put anyone in the president chair other than Vic. He has helped to further the anomosity between employees and the superintendent. His attitude towards employees is much the same as jkp. Ali is asking questions. This is the week to get in touch with her. Contact her with precise concerns that can be fact based.

Anonymous said...

I would say that staff and community members can trust Ali, Dan, Chris and John for sure. Maybe Paul too. Definately NOT Vic or Janice!

They do need to hear from as many people as possible THIS coming week! Vic has been a disaster as the board President!!!

Anonymous said...

The only reason that jp wants mr.b gone is so that she can have contol of almost all the schools! We need more people to stand up, if more people were to stand up then the board might notice that fact that the the town is not happy with what is going on. If you can not speak up about something there are hundreds that would be happy to do it for you. dont let here gag order keep you quit!

Dr. Joyce Phillips is 100 percent to blame for the departure of our excellent MHS Principal Ron Behrenwald and his family. She is also to blame for a long list of serious problems that she caused in the Marshall Public Schools. Hiring her has been the biggest mistake made in the history of the Marshall schools! I hope on March 27th that justice prevails and she is fired by the Marshall school board. Come on Paul, Dan, Ali, Chris, John, Janice and Vic! Now is your chance to regain community and staff support. Please do not miss this opportunity! The future of our schools and our town are at stake here!

Anonymous said...

Dan Stuhlberg is in bed with Joyce in a big way. Do not let his outer facade of actually caring fool you!!!! As for the review it will probably be a good one! We should all ask the question, who evaluates Joyce first?...the administrators. Did ALL administrators have a voice or just a chosen few?

Anonymous said...

If justice, fairness, accountablity and honesty prevail, Joyce will be demoted or fired next week. If Joyce gets an grossly unjust good performance review- then dishonesty, corruption and foolishness (or worse) will prevail!

Anonymous said...

When jp receives her yet another great performance evaluation on March 27th each and everyone should be ready to back a recall. There have been and are some very corrupt situations going on in this district. Aside from possibly Ali, Chris,Paul and John - none should be trusted. There seems to be enough evidence to remove Vic, and Dan for sure and possibly two others. This madness has got to stop. The supt and board are basically sneering in the faces of the community with their deceiption and spins on the truth. Yes Joyce, you are the reason RB is leaving. Stop trying to create a perfect scenario that he is going for any other reason. By the way, isn't there actual school work to keep this superintendent busy 'cus she seems to have nothing to do but cause conflict. Stay in your office - do some work - enjoy that nice new carpeting. In the 20 years I have been with this district I have watched superintendents DO ACTUAL SCHOOL BUSINESS. There was no time left for coverups, lies, spins and tauntings! This board has got to step up and remove her before the community has to move through a recall. Call Ali, John, Chris and Paul - let them know this week what problems you are aware of.

Anonymous said...

I heard this past week that the administrative team were given evaluations to fill out on the superintendent. These then go to the board members to help them do their evaluation of her. Problem: Not all administrators were given evaluations to fill out. If you supervise employees and have to attend administrative meetings each week why would you not be part of the evaluation process of the superintendent. Perhaps she knows who would give their honest opinions and give negative evals???!!! Question for Vic: If the board can accept anonymous evaluations of the good doctor to help to excell her financial growth why could you not accept the anonymous opinions of 152 unionized staff members? Once again - DOUBLE STANDARDS VIC! THERE IS NOTHING FAIR ABOUT THE PROCESS OF EVALUATING THE CURRENT SUPERINTENDENT....IT IS CAREFULLY ORCHESTRATED AND TERRIBLY UNFAIR! I hope the staff does another survey - maybe a second time around one of the seven board members will give it the credibility it deserved last summer.

Can the administrators trust that their evaluations of Joyce will not backfire and make them targets? There is absolutely no trust anymore of the school board and certainly not of Joyce. I am also disappointed in Dan if he is still backing Joyce. I thought he was far better than that! Vic and Janice are lost causes. Paul will also be a recall target if he does show that he supports the best interests of the schools and the kids instead of Joyce. We cannot tolerate such abuse of power any longer! Way too many awful things have been tolerated and allowed to do major damage to our schools. It needs to be stopped immediately!

"Paul will also be a recall target if he does show that he supports the best interests of the schools and the kids instead of Joyce."

Paul will NOT be a recall target if he does this. It would be great if he puts the best interests of the Marshall schools first, and therefore holds JP accountable. I am sure this was a typo.

The embarrassing downward slide of the Marshall schools at the top needs to be reversed! Let's keep Ron Behrenwald, then I hope we dump Phillips!

Ron Behrenwald has served the Marshall schools very well as a man of honesty, integrity, hard working, caring and highly respected by staff, students and parents. These may be the same qualities that angered Dr. Phillips, who is very well known to have been threatening Mr. Behrenwald to force him out. This is the last straw!!! One way or another, Phillips needs to be the one forced out for the good of the Marshall schools! Enough is enough!

I have a topic for this week's Chronicle article. I am hoping that the supt. will use this suggestion.

LEADERSHIP IS ABOUT FINDING A GOOD LEADER!

I am sure there would be alot of input and help in writing that article.

The Behrenwalds are an awesome family. Losing them as part of this community school family will be felt for a very long time.

The MPS school board tolerated (and encouraged?) the abuse of Mr. Behrenwald and many other excellent staff members. I think the time has come to consider a recall, especially if JP is given another bogus performance review next week. Vic, Janice and other JP supporters owe the Behrenwalds and the rest of the community an apology for all of the harm they have caused!

How fair can any evaluation be....with the hand picked administrators that were allowed to fill one out. Not allowing some on the administrative team to return evaluations is unfair practice and builds more mistrust amonst the staff. Wake up Board PLEASE!

Everything Joyce does is somehow shady, sleazy and/or dishonest. Look at her handpicked "citizens group" that she is in charge of "off the clock." Why can't she be honest for once!

Let's not fire the "good doctor", we would then have to buy her out and with the financial shape the school in in that would hurt the kids. Instead let's demote her to cleaning all bathrooms in all buildings, cleaning the grounds, digging ditches as others have been required to do, and any other dirty/degrading job that she requires others to do with the same timeline that she dishes out! Let's make her work for the same money that our custodial/grounds crew works for! It would save the district money and at the same time, make her feel what the staff of MPS feel - demoralized and demeaned.

FOIA her contract - check out the part where it says that she gets a 9% raise EACH YEAR over the next 3 years. On the other end of the spectrum, check the teachers and the support staff contracts - they have to FIGHT HARD to get a 1% raise each year.

I don't know why the teachers accepted such a bad contract when Joyce was given such a big pay raise. This is a great time for a public fight against Joyce. Joyce has been fighting against the staff in a one-sided war for over two years now! Let the contract expire and start "informational picketing" of the school board. If the Marshall school board are mean and dumb enough to back Joyce again this week, then it should be "war" (in a peaceful and civil manner). Enough is enough!!!

If the school board renews Joyce's contract and keeps her beyond this school year, things will get much much worse.
